The Macomb Cable Network (MCN) is a shared service of both the City of Mount Clemens and the Mount Clemens Community School District.
Cable Television was first offered to residents in Mount Clemens in the 1980’s. The community was faced with the prospect of having to build multiple television stations to host the Public, Education and Government (PEG) access channels. It was agreed at that time between the City of Mount Clemens and Mount Clemens Community School District, that one, Community Access Cable Television Station, would be created and the financing of the station would be shared by both entities. This community station would be located in Mount Clemens High School and would offer educational programming for students and adults.
The City of Mount Clemens receives revenue annually, from cable television providers, based on the number of cable television subscribers in the city. It also receives revenue from the cable providers for video equipment purchases, known as PEG fees. The subscriber fees are used to finance the city portion the cable budget. The PEG fees are used to purchase video equipment.
The school district matches the funds contributed by the city. They also provide fiduciary services for the station and its' staff, as well as IT, maintenance and other services.
Since its’ inception, MCN has hosted a number of adult education programs, as well as volunteer opportunities, to gain hands-on experience on a television production crew. These same opportunities are available to students at Mount Clemens High School. The station currently assists with Media Studies courses, such as studio operations, video editing and digital imaging. Students who excel in these programs may be offered paid positions at the station, workings on video production crews and news reporters. The pinnacle of these opportunities is the student producer who helps to create MCN’s flagship program: Bath City Beat.
Our mission is to provide the residents of Mount Clemens with non-commercial television programming; so that individuals, community groups, and non-profit organizations can be participants in what they watch and produce. We inform and educate the community about local issues, events and services, businesses and industries.
